Curvilinear Jugs A related series of vessels with a flowing curvilinear formation based on the puring action of liquid. The sharply modelled lines are created as a result of the overlap technique which is used to build up the body, section by section. The surface detailing and textural quality of the finished designs evolve in a natural manner, directly from the process of construction. Heights 450mm/420mm. Capacity 250ml/275ml

2012 , Height 155mm. Hammer texture detailing to main body surface

2016, length 420mm, width 150mm. A sculptural experiment in manipulated silver form, where light reveals a river-like mass of softly flowing metal.

2017, length 115mm, width 50 mm, height 35mm A wave- like central feature of seven contrasting elements.

2000- 2004 , height 285 / 215mm. The body shape is a fabrication of three elements is based on a modified triangular cross section, designed to provide a comfortable and secure handgrip form.

2003, height 204mm A repousse worked top section is inset within the plain oval body shape , the junction between these contrasting surfaces being emphasized by a curved step line flowing upwards into the terminal point of the spout.

Don Porritt

Apprenticed as a jeweller and silversmith, Don studied Industrial Design and Silversmithing at Leeds College of Art.

Inspiration is drawn from the characteristics of flowing water, with its highlights and strong tonal contrasts.

This inspiration is then sustained in a series of vessels – flasks, jugs and flagons.

Unique curvilinear and overlap processes create artefacts which have a strongly defined dynamic quality.

Work represented in the Goldsmiths’ Company Modern Collection and in private collections in the UK and abroad.
